Abbey Sharp returns with another batch of Beauty Hacks, DIY style of course. These beauty hacks are specifically aimed at combating the damaging effects that beautiful summer sun can cause as we frolic around enjoying it.

First things first, let’s defrizz that humidity hair. You spend lots of time on your hair, curling it, primping in the mirror and making sure you look great in those new shorts you bought. Then you walk out in the grueling summer heat and suddenly your hard work looks a lot more like a clown wig than those lovely locks your remember seeing in the mirror. Abbey has created a home-made Avocado and Olive Oil hair mask that infuses your hair with nutrients it needs to properly combat the sun. Mix 1 Avocado with 2 tbsp. of Extra Virgin Olive Oil in a bowl and mix thoroughly. Explain to your significant other that you are not making dip for their nachos and then comb it into your hair and let it sit for about 30 minutes. You could even give your hair a quick wrap with a light towel to seal it all in. After the 30 minutes has passed wash and dry just like normal.

Next up Abbey goes after the plague of Sunburn. She is also very clear on the point that you should never, ever, under any circumstances substitute anything for the regular use of your sunscreen of preference. Sunscreen is a must. In addition to sunscreen she suggests drinking a few cups of iced Green Tea before you head out for the day. Green Tea contains antioxidants like catechins and tannins. Early research suggests Green Tea may have some UV protective and anti-inflammatory benefits. Additionally putting some of these cool teabags on your burn, should you be so unfortunate as to get one, may provide some much needed relief.

Her next suggestion for dealing with the brutal summer heat helps to not only combat a bad hangover but also a heat stroke. Regardless of whether or not you’ve had one too many drinks or the summer heat is really starting to get to you remember that hydration is a key factor in your body’s ability to keep running efficiently. The recommendation of daily water intake for women is right around 2.2 liters of water per day, and 3 per day for men. However, when the summer sun is blazing down on you these guidelines may not be nearly enough.

Watch out for those tell-tale dehydration signs of dehydration: dry mouth, dark urine, and parched skin. Listen to what your body is telling you, it will let you know if it needs more water and if you don’t give it what it wants it may just decide to go on strike. Abbey uses a Soda Stream sparkling water maker to get her daily water intake without making it seeming like a chore. The nice thing about the Soda Stream is that you can customize the level of carbonation in your drink and flavor it naturally with any ingredient you choose. Abbey uses things like fruit, veggies, citrus and ever herbs. Her go to combination is her house made sparkling water, some muddled raspberries, lemon, and basil.

Her last summer beauty hack gives relief from those wicked bug bites from mosquitoes and other flying insects as well as soothes poison ivy. Let’s face it, nothing is more devastating to a cute outfit than an itchy red rash. For this DIY Summer Beauty Hack Abbey takes a cup of rolled oats and processes them in a food processor until their powder. She adds these along with 2 cups of whole milk to a tepid batch. Just hop in and let the mixture do it’s work. Grab a book or a magazine and set a timer for a hour. When you get out simply pat yourself dry.

Now you have no excuse not to get out there in the summer sun and enjoy yourself, just remember Abbey’s got you covered with these easy to implement DIY Summer Beauty Hacks.
